The Fort McMurray Catholic Schools requires a full-time Indigenous Liaison for St. Kateri School.

Key function(s):

The employee provides social, emotional and academic support and guidance to Indigenous students. Additionally, is a cultural interpreter, role model and mentor of students and staff in understanding Indigenous culture.

Job Qualifications:

·          At least one (1) year of experience working with Indigenous Family Support, Community Support Worker or similar type position.

·          Certificate/diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution related to Indigenous studies, or Child and Youth, or Social Work diploma or other equivalent combinations of directly related post-secondary education and directly related experience will be considered.

·          Access to vehicle and valid class 5 driver’s license

Requirements:

·          Knowledge and ability to work effectively with Indigenous students and families

·          Ability to work cooperatively with parents, school and community agencies

·          Excellent organizational, report writing, and time management skills are essential

·          Must be comfortable with home visits

·          Ability to organize cultural events and to bring speakers and resources to support our Indigenous educational programs

·          Extensive knowledge of Indigenous culture is essential

·          Knowledge of Cree and Dene languages is beneficial

·          Experience working with students with learning difficulties and training in literacy-numeracy are assets

The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.
