Brisbane City Council’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traineeship Pathway Program is offering a career-starting opportunity in horticulture. You'll work towards a nationally recognised Certificate II in Horticulture, while gaining real-life experience across Brisbane’s parks, gardens, and natural areas.

Your day-to-day tasks may include:

• maintaining gardens, streetscapes, and green spaces
• identifying native and exotic plants
• pruning and planting trees and shrubs
• controlling weeds, pests, and diseases
• using and maintaining horticulture equipment
• keeping public spaces clean, safe, and culturally respected.

What we’re looking for:

• candidates who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
• a genuine interest in horticulture, plants, and nature
• reliable and motivated to learn
• open to working outdoors in all weather
• willing to travel across Brisbane (some locations may not be serviced by public transport)
• committed to completing training throughout the year.

At the end of your traineeship, you’ll have:

• a Certificate II in Horticulture (nationally recognised)
• confidence and experience working in a professional Council environment
• a foundation for applying for future employment in Council or the wider industry
• new communication, teamwork, and job-readiness skills
• a supportive professional network.

Please note that you will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment to assess your ability to perform the genuine occupational requirements of the role.
