headspace provides free, confidential support to young people aged 12–25 who are experiencing mental health, emotional, physical health, drug and alcohol or vocational challenges. Our centres are youth-friendly, inclusive and designed to help young people access the right support, at the right time. 

headspace Capalaba is seeking an experienced First Nations Wellbeing Clinician to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role, you’ll provide culturally safe, youth-focused assessment, support, and intervention for young people experiencing mild to moderate social and emotional wellbeing challenges. You’ll also play an active role in community engagement, health promotion, and early intervention initiatives designed to strengthen wellbeing across the local First Nations community. 

This is a fixed term position until December 2026

Your Role as First Nations Wellbeing Clinician  

You’ll deliver person-centred and contemporary youth-focused, culturally inclusive wellbeing services to support the Firsts Nations community by: 

  • Assessment of customer mental health needs and formulation of relevant support plans 

  • Delivery of both individual counselling and group programs 

  • Delivery of high-quality evidence-based intervention and advice ensuring family-inclusive practice which ensures the voice, choice and active involvement of young people, and their family, friends and support networks are heard and supported 

  • Delivery of community initiatives aligned with health promotion, mental health early intervention strategies and First Nations community engagement including delivery of events, programs and community development activities 

What We’re Looking For 

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant Allied Health field such as Psychology, Mental Health Occupational Therapy, Social Work, or Counselling 

  • Current registration with relevant professional body 

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in the provision of counselling and case management of young people presenting with a varied physical and mental health issues 

  • Identifies as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and be accepted by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person 

  • Strong understanding of First Nations cultures, protocols, and contemporary issues 

  • Proven experience in First Nations engagement and supporting community informed initiatives 

  • Demonstrated ability and proficiency in the timely receipting, appropriate documenting and accurate record keeping into computerised programs 

  • Demonstrated high level of verbal and written communication skills particularly in establishing and maintaining rapport with staff, young people and their families and carers 

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a multi-disciplinary team member. 

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage individual caseload whilst meeting service and young people’s needs. 

 

A Valuable Addition, Yet Not a Must-Have! 

  • Mental Health Accreditation for Social Workers and Occupational Therapists or evidence of actively working towards same 

Essential Requirements 

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status (or as required by legislation and WMQ policy) 

  • Relevant probity checks required by legislation and WMQ Limited policy. 

  • Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel for work
