  • Location – Parramatta
  • Employment type – Temporary full-time up to 30 June 2028
  • Grade – Clerk Grade 11/12
  • Salary – $149,739 pa - $173,174 pa plus employers’ contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

 

Create meaningful change for Aboriginal children and communities.


This role leads a major project designing therapeutic, culturally informed alternatives for Aboriginal children in contact with the justice system. You’ll work closely with Aboriginal communities, peak bodies and sector partners to co-design solutions that are effective, sustainable and grounded in culture.

 

The role also contributes to broader policy and program development to improve justice outcomes for Aboriginal people. Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and the ability to navigate sensitive, complex matters with cultural care and professionalism are essential.

 

What you’ll do

 

Lead the Therapeutic Pathways for Aboriginal Children project and work in genuine partnership with Aboriginal communities and key stakeholders. You will:

  • Coordinate project design, planning and implementation
  • Manage budgets, resources, reporting and data
  • Provide evidence-based advice and briefings to senior leaders
  • Build strong relationships to support culturally grounded co-design
  • Lead a small team and foster a culturally safe, positive environment
  • Oversee procurement, contracts and service delivery
  • Prepare key documents, including briefs and submissions
  • Navigate sensitive issues with professionalism and cultural integrity

What we’re looking for

 

We’re looking for someone who brings strategic thinking, strong project leadership and a deep commitment to culturally safe, community-led work, including:

  • Experience in justice, human services or community-driven program design
  • Strong understanding of the experiences of Aboriginal children and families
  • A culturally safe, trauma-informed and strengths-based approach
  • Excellent relationship-building and team leadership skills
  • Confidence managing complex projects and competing priorities
  • Clear, empathetic and influential communication
  • Passion for creating real, lasting change for Aboriginal young people

 

As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.

There are two alternatives to confirming your Aboriginality, one of which must be uploaded to be considered for the role as follows. Either will be accepted:

Confirmation of Aboriginality form

Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:

  • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
  • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

This role contributes to policy responses affecting Aboriginal people in the criminal justice system. How do you stay current with legislative and policy changes, and how do you translate that knowledge into practical recommendations?
