Join SA Health as an Aboriginal Engagement Consultant and drive meaningful change in healthcare outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Adelaide Metro Southern. You will build strong community relationships, provide cultural guidance to healthcare teams, and develop culturally appropriate engagement strategies. This full-time, ongoing position offers the opportunity to create lasting positive impact while working within South Australia's largest health network.
About the role:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the primary purpose of the Aboriginal Engagement Consultant is to support and mentor SALHN’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and provide advice and support to managers and executives on cultural matters to increase Aboriginal employment, retention, and cultural competency across Southern Adelaide Local Health Network
Duties for the role will include:
- Provide support and mentoring to SALHN’s Aboriginal employees and their work groups,
- Coach and advise business unit managers and employees on cultural matters specific to Aboriginal people,
- Work with business units to identify practices that can be improved to encourage the integration of Aboriginal candidates in their workforce,
- Provide a cultural lens to relevant committees and work groups on matters that relate to Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities,
- Identify, implement, and promote strategies to recruit and retain Aboriginal employees supporting the development of SALHN Aboriginal Employment and Retention Strategies and Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan,
- Identify suitable candidates for vacancies from the OCPSE Aboriginal Employment Register and DHW Aboriginal Employment Pool and liaise with candidates and hiring managers,
- Co-ordinate the delivery of cultural awareness/competency training and cultural inclusion initiatives,
- Drive SALHN's participation in various cultural events such as Reconciliation activities, NAIDOC week, and anti-racism campaign,
- Encourage Business Units in the promotion and creation of culturally inclusive workplaces
About you:
- Ability to translate strategies and goals into achievable plans.
- Develops plans with clear outcomes and supports others to achieve these,
- Effectively manages their own performance,
- Actively listens and communicates in a clear and concise manner,
- Remain positive and recover from setbacks,
- Experience working with Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities,
- Proven ability to mentor Aboriginal people and respective workplaces/managers for successful outcomes
