About the Role:

This position is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified position and is exempt under the Equal Opportunity Act (1984). The position will only be open to those who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

The Aboriginal Child and Family Support Consultant will provide culturally safe, family-centred, and trauma-informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. Grounded in the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework, this role strengthens connections to culture, kinship, Country, and community while supporting families to navigate health, social, and emotional wellbeing systems. The Consultant works as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure care is culturally led, holistic, trauma informed and responsive to the experience of Aboriginal families, particularly during the early years of a child’s life.

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience supporting Aboriginal children and families in community, health, or education settings.

  • Experience working with families experiencing complex needs, including trauma and grief.

  • Experience in advocacy, case coordination, or family support roles.

  • Experience in out-reach, early childhood development, or parenting support is highly valued.

  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from regional and remote communities is highly desirable.

Qualification and Other Requirements:

  • Skills, experience and knowledge working with Aboriginal children and families in mental health settings and broadly across the community services sector.

  • Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC)

  • Current or willing to obtain a National Police Check (NPC)

  • Employment is subject to compliance with Sonder’s Immunisation Policy. Applicants must hold, or be willing to obtain, all vaccinations and immunisations required for the role.
