Position Goal: 

This position helps Native American students succeed in academic and interpersonal skills through supporting teacher’s expectation, developing a positive learning environment, documenting student progress-activities-outcomes; advising parents and/or legal guardians of student progress and encouraging parent participation in school activities.  The position must maintain consistency with grant guidelines and expectations.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • College preferred
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience with Native populations and community
  • Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
  • Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
  • Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date

 

Essential Job Functions: 

This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.  Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

  • Share knowledge of the Native American culture with the school community to enhance and support Native American student’s success in the school environment
  • Conduct attendance and academic monitoring for Native American students and assist with parental contacts
  • Participate in conflict resolution between student-student, student-teacher, and parent-school when requested
  • Work with district staff and parents to develop and support individual academic and behavioral programs for students when requested by parents and/or staff
  • Serve as a positive, effective communicator between the Native American student, parents, and district
  • Maintain daily log of activities
  • Assist in completing Title IX and JOM funding and reporting forms
  • Tutor or assist with obtaining a tutor for students under the direction of certificated staff
  • Create and present building reports at Indian Education Parent Committee meetings
  • Involve parents in planning and implementing Native American education activities
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Develop Native American activities for Native American Heritage month at school sites
  • Monitor classrooms on a limited basis to observe environment and to help correct problems that may be occurring
  • Connect with and access community and Tribal resources to enhance services provided by district
  • Work with building principals to create a work schedule, making note of required meetings with Indian Education Manager
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours
  • Professionally interact with students, staff, and public
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures
  • Perform related duties as assigned

  • Ability to handle confidential matters and information in a professional manner

 

Work Environment: 

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  This is an office job.  The employee is confined to a work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; must be able to work at a computer monitor for prolonged periods; and must be able to crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, and lift/move objects such as files, boxes, etc.  The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children.  The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.

 

Evaluation:

This position shall be evaluated periodically by the Director pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria.  The process shall include an evaluation of the employee’s performance of the above essential job functions.
